(28/10/2022) Job Market – University of Colorado Boulder: Open Rank Professor of Race and Journalism

Job Summary: The Department of Journalism in the College of Media, Communication and Information (CMCI) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a tenure-track open-rank professor of race and journalism. The successful candidate will identify within the broad field of journalism studies, but specialize in, potentially, one of the following areas: journalism and racial justice; the politics of race in journalism; race and representation within either journalistic content or newsrooms; race, technology and journalism; or race, sports and journalism. Intersectional approaches to any or all of these areas are welcomed.

The successful candidate must be well-grounded in journalism studies and open to creative interchange with colleagues practicing a variety of qualitative, quantitative and practice-based methodologies while researching and teaching journalism and media through both a social science and humanistic approach. They should also have demonstrated commitment to and experience with inclusive pedagogies and the mentoring of a diverse range of undergraduate and graduate students. The position is 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% service and involves teaching two classes per semester. A PhD in journalism or allied fields is required at the time of appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience.

This position is part of a cluster hire within CMCI focused on Race, Technology and Media.
